Can FG book group tickets for any group?
Yes, we can book group tickets for ANY type of group, including bands, families, school groups, study abroad, sports, spring break, weddings, travel buddies, etc. as long as you are all flying together on the same flight. A small number of deviations (returning to a different city or returning home on a different date, for example) are usually allowed as long as the final number of seats purchased is more than 10. Normally, you do not need to give us names more than 35 days prior to departure.
What is your fee?
Flight Goddess charges $49 per ticket booked, with a minimum of 10 seats booked. You do not need to know the names of the people traveling until closer to departure. Keep in mind that most group airline booking companies may allow you to make deposits on a credit card, but make you pay the remainder of the payment in cash (or by ACH, wire) to avoid credit card fees, or they pass that charge on to you. This allows them to make more money. We do not charge you any credit card fees, because we want to make this convenient for you. We do shave off 1% of your fee if you pay by ACH or direct deposit, though!
If you book more than 20 seats in a booking, our fee drops to $47/ ticket. If you book more than 50 seats in a booking, our fee drops to $45/ ticket. If you book more than 100 seats, our fee drops to $43/ ticket. If you book more than 100 at a time, our fee drops to $41/ ticket. After you book 150 seats in total with Flight Goddess in a given year, our fee will drop to our lowest rate for the rest of your bookings for the rest of the year.
Other companies say they have great purchasing power, and thus better fares. Is that true? And more importantly, do they pass on their savings to me?
From our experience, it may be true that they get good rates by purchasing more seats, but it does not seem, from our experience over many years, that they pass on the savings. Otherwise, quite honestly, we would still be working with them and would never have started booking flights on our own. You could always ask them for a copy of the booking agreement, but they will not share it with you.
What happens when I request quotes from several companies?
Airlines do not like it when you do that. They will normally give the 2nd requestor a high rate. And so on. If you have already requested quotes from other companies, we may still give you a quote.
Do you take credit card?
Flight Goddess accepts credit cards for all payments at no additional fee. In case of cancellations past the credit card’s refundable deadline (sometime between 30-90 days), FG will keep the credit card fee, roughly 3.5-4%, depending on the card.
Can we save money if don’t use a credit card?
FG will reduce your price by 2-3% if you pay by check, ACH, Direct Deposit or Wire transfer (you must pay for all wire fees). We retain the remainder of the fee that the credit card would have charged for the higher operating costs of dealing with these sorts of payments, which are more complicated to track down.
Are prices guaranteed?
Our quote will expire after a given timeframe; however, if it is far enough from departure, airlines may keep the reservation after the deadline. Once a deposit is made, the fare is fixed, but taxes and any airlines fees can go up prior to full payment. Increases such as this are rare, however.
Can I get travel miles for my group booking?
Many airlines offer travel miles on group bookings, but there are exceptions. We will let you know about this when we give you the quote.
Do you have 24/7 support?
Currently, Flight Goddess does not offer 24/7 support. However, you will find that the airlines Customer Service Desk at the airport will usually work with you directly if there are delays or changes to your group flight.
I’ve already gotten quotes from other companies. Can I still get one from Flight Goddess?
If you have already contacted another company, just tell us so, and also which airlines you have already gotten quotes from. Give us the route and rate they have quoted you, and we will see if the airline will give us the same rate or if our total cost will be less than the rate they quoted you. If we are upfront with the airline, they may be more accommodating. If they find out the hard way, they will likely raise the price. And if you are not upfront with us, it doesn’t make you look very good in our steely, goddess eyes.
How do refundable deposits work?
FG will collect deposits (normally $100/ seat) for your booking, although some airlines charge more, or less, and that is fully refundable (minus any banking fees), normally up until 91 days before departure. Starting at 90 days before departure, deposits are not normally refundable, but you can usually still reduce the number of seats you need and apply the remaining deposit to the total.
How do I reduce the number of seats I have made deposits on?
If you book 20 seats, for example, you can normally reduce your booking to the 10-seat minimum if that is before 90 days of departure. The airline will usually apply the remaining deposits to the rest of the booking. It is best to reduce your seats as soon as you know the number is going to be less than originally anticipated, though. It is possible that the rate of the flight may change with substantially less seats needed, but that is up to the airline’s discretion, and it is rare to see such a change.
Starting at 90 days before departure, you are normally allowed a 10-20% reduction without penalty. That means you could reduce from 20 seats to 16 seats (if 20% is allowed), without a penalty, and the airline would still credit the 4 extra deposits to the remainder of the reservation.
If you reduce the number of seats more than the limit, in this case, 5 seats, then you would lose the $100 deposit, if that’s what the deposit was to begin with. If you cancelled 6 seats, you would lose the 5th and 6th deposits, likely totaling $200.
What is a flight deviation, and is that allowed?
A flight deviation is a person comes back to a different city than the rest of the group or travels back on a different date. Airlines often allow 10% of the tickets to deviate, and there may be additional fees, based on the new dates and/ or route.
How do I get free seats?
If you book more than 20 seats, some airlines offer free seats. Other airlines only offer at 25 or 30 seats. No matter. Flight Goddess will ask the airlines for free seats on your behalf, and we will let you know. If free seats are offered, they will be on the exact flight as the rest of the group and they will still require you to pay taxes. Normally, you will need to provide the name for this ticket at the same time as the other tickets.
What are the payment / cancellation deadlines for group tickets?
Payment and cancellation deadlines are dependant on each airline; however, they are generally:
$100 deposit per seat more than 90 days before departure; refundable until 91 days before departure. Name list and non-refundable, final payments 45-30 days prior to departure. FG needs payments just before these deadlines in order to pay the airlines on your behalf. If we have a good, pre-existing relationship, FG may agree to make refundable deposits on your behalf, giving you more time to make that deposit.
Can I change names on our group ticket?
A limited number of names can usually be changed or exchanged leading up to departure, but that depends on the airline’s terms. In cases of single letter errors, most airlines will make a notation of the error in their system; other times they will make you pay a change fee to make the change; and other times they may make you cancel the seat and buy a new one.
Are group tickets cheaper than individual tickets?
Group tickets can be cheaper than buying the same number of individual tickets. However, this is not always the case. When you search online for 1 ticket, the price will almost always be cheaper to buy 1 ticket online that 10 through a group booking. However, when you search for 9 seats, the max normally allowed in a search, you will normally see a higher price than for 1 ticket, because the aggregator is averaging the prices of all 9 tickets. When we book 10 seats or more, we are getting a fixed price from the airline, and that price includes a number of advantages over buying the same number of (normally non-refundable) tickets online.
What are the advantages of buying a group ticket over the same number of individual tickets online?
Groups tickets allow you to book everyone on the same flight at a fixed price (although taxes and airline fees can go up before final payments are made) without hoping there are enough seats and wondering about the price for the extra seats. Group tickets also allow you to make a refundable deposit to hold the seats and allow you to give the names around 30-45 days to departure. Other advantages include deviations, reducing the number of seats, free seats, and having someone else do all the work!
Do we have to pay for checked luggage?
Each airline has their own policy, but normally international flights (except to some parts of Central and South America and the Caribbean) include checked luggage and carry ons. Internal flights, in Europe or Asia, for example, often give group bookings better options for including checked luggage. In the end, each airline and route has its own terms, which we will share with you.
Can we pay for checked baggage through Flight Goddess?
Normally, checked luggage is included. However, if the flight does not include checked luggage, and if we can’t include it with a fee, you will need to pay for it yourself at check in.
Can individuals pay for their own tickets even though it’s a group ticket?
Yes, your group can pay invoices for their flight only, or for the average of their ticket and a portion of a leader’s flight, for example, if you want that included. FG will send everyone their own invoices to pay. If you ask us, though, we prefer groups to pay in one lump sum.
Will we be refunded if the group flight price drops?
Flight Goddess will refund the difference in a flight fare if the fare drops if the airlines will allow this. It is not common for group prices to drop the same way that individual prices drop.
Can you upgrade me?
Some airlines allow upgrades for some members of a group, but not all. If a member of your group needs an upgrade, it is best to know that from early on.
Can I get assigned seats and special meals?
Most airlines auto-assign the group seats. Flight Goddess can often request seats (such as aisle, middle, window) and special meals for your members if requested when names are given. Some airlines allow these changes to an individual’s reservation to be made by the individual; others do not.
What happens if the airline changes my route?
If an airline changes your route, they will let us know, and we will let you know. If the change causes a missed connection, the airline will usually allow you to change the reservation, and may absorb some or all of the costs. It depends on many variables.
How many people make a group?
10 or more people make a group. A group booking may not drop below 10. If it does after deposits are made, the group booking will usually be cancelled and you will lose your deposit.
Do we all need to be on all the same flights to qualify for a group booking?
You all need to be on the same outbound flight. Deviations are normally allowed to some extent. That means that airlines normally allow a percentage of your group to return to the same city, or even a different city, on the same or different dates. It all depends on the airline.
Can some of us fly one way or return to another city?
If some people fly one-way while everyone else flies back to where they started, the airline will book a round-trip group flight for everyone, and those staying will not be able to use their return. Another option is to make a deviation, allowing those people to come back at a different time. Keep in mind that the airlines only allow a certain number of people in a reservation to do this. It is usually 10-20%.
What is open-jaw?
Open-jaw means flying into one city and flying back from another city into the origin city.
How far in advance do we need to make a group booking?
You can technically make a group booking anytime, based on the airline, but most of the advantages to making a group booking are more than 90 days before departure.
